Trauma

a Trauma Treatment

Are you struggling to concentrate on the present and lead the life you desire because of past events? Feeling overwhelmed, helpless, directionless, or highly emotional? Trauma isn't solely about violence; it can encompass any profoundly distressing encounter with enduring consequences. These distressing incidents can result in lasting negative impacts on our emotional state, sensations, and physical well-being. Our body and nervous system might persist in responding as if the trauma is ongoing, even well after the initial events.

I provide advanced trauma treatment to guarantee you receive high-quality care.  Recovery from trauma requires both time and intention. My approach to trauma treatment involves utilizing Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and talk therapy.

What is ART?

ART is an incredibly innovative and rapidly evolving therapeutic approach that has shown outstanding effectiveness in helping individuals cope with trauma and other challenging mental health conditions. By integrating well-established psychotherapeutic techniques with the use of rapid eye movements, ART provides a hopeful and promising path to healing for many individuals. ART does not require you to verbally share a description of the traumatic experience which can limit feelings of distress. Instead of erasing or suppressing memories, ART helps change our relationship with them, making the memories easier to handle and less intrusive. Extensive research confirms that ART is a brief, safe, and effective treatment for anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and relationship issues.

How does ART work?

The first steps of ART involve an assessment, identifying pivotal memories, and setting clear expectations for the therapy course. Each ART session typically includes recalling the distressing event, guided rapid eye movements, image replacement techniques, active therapist guidance, and a feedback period. ART treatment can show benefits in as few as 1-5 sessions.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is a form of psychotherapy that helps individuals recover from symptoms and emotional distress caused by upsetting life events. It is a specialized therapy method aimed at alleviating trauma, PTSD, and various emotional issues. EMDR utilizes the brain's innate mechanism for memory and information processing, similar to REM sleep, to diminish the intensity of traumatic memories.

Although the brain is naturally wired to heal and progress from past events, some traumatic experiences can become "stuck." Consequently, any small or significant trigger may prompt the brain to re-enter a fight, flight, or freeze response as if the initial event is recurring and lead to overwhelming feelings. EMDR therapy can help alleviate the impact of these negative beliefs and introduce more positive and beneficial ones.

How does EMDR work?

EMDR helps the brain process “stuck” memories, enabling regular information processing. Therapists often use EMDR to help clients explore and tackle beliefs originating from relational traumas, childhood abuse, and neglect. In EMDR therapy sessions, the therapist directs the client to concentrate on the traumatic event and related emotions. Bilateral stimulation is employed to aid memory reprocessing. By confronting the main problem, EMDR empowers individuals to progress with a restored sense of peace.
